Step by Step: Cake Design for Mother

Step One: Preheat the Oven and Prepare Your 9-Inch Cake Pans

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease the pans with shortening and dust with flour.

Step Two: Beat Butter and Sugar

Using your electric mixer, beat the butter on medium speed until it becomes creamy. Then, gradually add your sugar to your butter. Beat until light and fluffy, then add the egg yolks one at a time, mixing until incorporated.

Step Three: Combine Cake Flour, Baking Powder, and Salt

In a medium whisking bowl, combine the cake flour, baking powder, and salt together until combined.

Step Four: Combine the Dry and Wet Ingredients of the Batter

Add the dry ingredients into the butter mixture in intervals, alternating with adding the milk. Begin and end with flour mixture and mix at low speed until just combined. Mix in the lemon zest and juice into the cake batter.

Step Five: Beat Egg Whites

In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer at high speed until stiff peaks form. Carefully stir one-third of the egg whites into the batter then fold in the remaining egg whites.

Step Six: Bake the Cake

Evenly pour the cake batter into the three cake pans and bake for 16-20 minutes. Check if the lemon cakes are done by using a toothpick. If the toothpick comes out clean, they are done. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Step Seven: Make the Filling

Blend the strawberries in a food processor or blender until smooth. Use a mesh strainer to separate the juice from the pulp and disregard the pulp. Add the strawberries to the saucepan with the sugar, lemon juice, and cornstarch.

Heat the jam mixture on medium heat until it begins to boil, then whisk continuously for one minute. Remove the mixture from the heat and cover it with plastic wrap. Refrigerate the jam filling for at least two hours.

Mother’s Day Heart Cake Recipe

Making a heart cake for Mother’s day is one of the simplest, but most effective ways of telling her that you love her. For this recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1 box of white cake mix (plus ingredients needed to complete the cake: usually water, egg, and oil)
  • 1 container of store-bought/homemade white frosting
  • 1-2 drops of red food coloring

Now all you need to do is:

  1. Grease 2 baking pans (one 8″ round and one 8″ square) and preheat your oven to 350F.
  2. Using the instructions on the back/side of your boxed cake mix, prepare the batter accordingly.
  3. Pour batter evenly into the pans and bake in the center of your preheated oven. The square cake should take around 25-28 minutes, and the round cake should take around 30-24 minutes. Remove from oven and leave to cool completely before handling.
  4. Cut the round cake in half and point the other cake at an angle toward you (so one corner is facing you). Now add each cut half of the round cake on the sides of the square cake. This should make a heart shape.
  5. Add a few drops of red food coloring to your white frosting and frost the cake entirely. Add fresh strawberries on top, if desired. Slice, serve, and enjoy!

Money Cake Design for Mother

One of the latest trends for celebrations is a money cake. This is simply a cake that has money hidden inside. This is sure to surprise your mom.

The ingredients you’ll need for this recipe are:

for the cake:

  • 2 cups of white sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup of cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

for the frosting:

  • 2 cups of butter
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt (omit if using salted butter)
  • 2lb of confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips

for the money:

  • dollar bills
  • ribbon
  • small plastic bags
  • toilet paper tube

Now all you need to do is:

  1. Grease and line 3 cake pans with parchment paper. You’ll also need to preheat your oven to 350F.
  2. Grab a mixing bowl and add the following ingredients: sugar, cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder. Mix well and set aside.
  3. Once mixed, add the following ingredients to the bowl: eggs, oil, vanilla extract, milk, and water. Mix well until the batter is relatively smooth; there’s likely to be a few smaller lumps.
  4. Pour batter evenly into your pans and bake for around 20-24 minutes; or until a toothpick in the center comes out clean. Leave to cool.
  5. For the frosting, add your butter and beat for around a minute, until fluffy. Add in your vanilla and salt. Then mix in your confectioners’ sugar slowly.
  6. Add milk gradually until you reach the desired consistency of your frosting. Set aside.
  7. Add one layer of cake to a stand and frost from the center to the edges. Add a handful of sprinkles over the top and then add the second layer. Repeat this process until you reach the third layer (do not add frosting).
  8. Measure your mini plastic bags and ensure your tube is just slightly longer. Add a slit in your tube for the bags to fit through. Cover with plastic wrap, leaving a hole where the slit is.
  9. Add money to your mini bags and firmly seal each end of the bag to the next one, to create a long strip. Once finished, roll up as small as you possibly can and fit it into your tube. Add more plastic wrap around the tube for security.
  10. Add a small hole to the bag nearest the top of the tube and tie a piece of ribbon to the end of one of your cake decorations. You can use a lollipop if you’d prefer.
  11. Make a hole with a knife, in the center of your cake; just enough to fit the tube snugly. Empty any frosting and cake and place your tube inside.
  12. With the frosting and cake you removed, add it back to the cake, to cover the tube; ensuring the piece of ribbon is still easy to access.
  13. Frost the top of your cake and gently tug the ribbon to reveal the money. Then slice, serve and enjoy!
