Cake flavors to use

Popular flavors for the cake layers include strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, and red velvet.

You can also of course choose other types of cake, like carrot cake. But, the texture of the cake needs to be able to support the weight of the ice cream layers. For this reason, sponge cake or pound cake is often used instead.

Ice cream flavors

When it comes to the ice cream flavors, as we have mentioned, your choices are unlimited.

You can choose traditional pre-made flavors like vanilla, chocolate, rum and raisin, bubblegum, and strawberry, to name a few.

However, you can also ask your baker to make a custom flavored ice cream. But, who knows, maybe they can order it pre-made online. There are even ice cream shops specializing in these flavors specifically!

Other fun and interesting flavors you can choose include Oreo, Reese’s cups, Snickers, peanut butter, marshmallow, chocolate chip, chocolate chip cookies, and red velvet.

Where Can You Buy a Blue Bell Wedding Cake Ice Cream?

You know the saying something borrowed, something blue? Well, what’s more fitting than a Blue Bell wedding cake?

Blue Bell is a popular ice cream brand. What makes their ice cream so exceptional is the authentic flavors, creamy texture, and how well it can be used to make ice cream cakes.

More than that, and something we are obsessed with, is that they literally have flavors called Bride’s flavor and Groom’s flavor.

The Bride’s cake ice cream flavor consists of almond ice cream with vanilla cake pieces swirled around, surrounded by rich amaretto cream cheese icing.

They have also brought back Groom’s cake flavor recently. This includes chocolate ice cream with chocolate cake pieces, chocolate-coated strawberry hearts, and strawberry sauce swirls with chocolate icing. Sounds just as good, right?

Blue Bell ice cream can be bought from any of their creameries across the United States. Be sure to check out their website for a store near you! But, to make your life even easier, they also ship nationwide!

How To Make An Ice Cream Wedding Cake

Step 1: Prepare the ice cream

Allow the ice cream to soften slightly. It should not be melted in any way, just soft, so you can easily work with it. We recommend removing it from the freezer for about 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the container.

Then, line a cake pan (that is the same size as the cake layers) with plastic wrap. Then, fill it with softened ice cream until it is as thick as you want it to be.

Place the cake pan into the freezer and allow the ice cream to freeze again. If you only have one cake pan, you can remove the layer from the pan and keep it in the freezer while you create another layer.

Step 2: Prepare the cake

You can either bake a cake from scratch or buy a store-made one. Makes sure to buy only the layers. Then, level and cool the layers completely before starting the assembly of this cake.

Step 3: Prepare the icing for the cake

Make sure to choose a stable frosting for the cake that will hold the structure together. Finish making the frosting before starting to assemble the cake.

Step 4: Assemble the ice cream cake

Start by placing a layer of cake on a cake board. Then, add an ice cream layer. You can use some frosting to help the two layers stick together. Continue layering until you’ve used all of the layers.

Freeze the whole cake again to make sure it’s stable before frosting it. And there you go, an ice cream cake!

How To Keep An Ice Cream Cake From Melting?

Ice is probably going to be your best friend! With an ice cream wedding cake, don’t put it on display at the reception. It will completely melt by the time you get to the cake-cutting ceremony!

Make sure your venue has plenty of freezer space to keep your cake in the freezer until it’s needed! And, someone has to take responsibility for removing the cake from the freezer to allow it to slightly defrost before serving it.

What To Serve With an Ice Cream Cake?

Because this cake is already so theatrical, we would only suggest serving some coffee or tea with the cake. Other than garnishes, there really isn’t much that is going to elevate the cake or add to it in any way.
