How To Melt Candy Coating Discs
There are a couple of techniques you can use to melt candy coating discs. Let’s have a look at some that we recommend most. Keep in mind that there are many others, but we prefer these methods for their convenience and efficiency.
1. Melting pot
This is a product that has been specifically designed to melt candy coating discs. It automatically heats the melts so that they can melt completely. But, it has built-in functions that help it regulate the temperature so that the discs don’t easily burn.
Furthermore, it has two lips or spouts on either side that makes pouring possible. This machine can even be used as a chocolate fondue pot, making it dual purpose as well!
This is a hands-free technique that we love! But, you have to set your microwave to a lower heat setting. Otherwise, the sugar in the candy discs could burn.
To melt these discs in a microwave, simply add them to a heatproof microwave-safe bowl or container. Then, heat it using medium heat in 30-second intervals. Give the discs a stir between each. Repeat the process until the discs are completely melted and you have a uniform mixture.
3. In a saucepan
This method is pretty straightforward. And again, controlling the heat is the most important part. Simply add your discs to a saucepan and place them over low-medium heat. Then, once the discs start melting, gently stir them.
Monitor the heat constantly and keep stirring as the discs melt. Once they are fully melted, you can use the saucepan as a dipping bowl or type of pouring jug.
4. Over a double boiler
Some people only use the double-boiler technique to melt their candy coating discs. Personally, it is a bit time-consuming and labor-intensive. Especially considering the whole point of these discs is efficiency.
Nevertheless, it is still a technique that works very well. And, if you already have a double boiler out, it doesn’t hurt.

Candy coating discs are made from a mixture of milk solids, oil, sugar, and other additives. These don't have to be tempered.
