Step-by-step instructions for this banana bread recipe with cake mix and pudding
Step 1: Preheat the oven and prepare the baking tins
Preheat your oven to 350°F and make sure that the oven rack is in the middle position. Line the baking tin of your choice with non-stick baking paper (on the bottom) and non-stick cooking spray.
Step 2: Combine the ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the yellow cake mix and the banana-flavored instant pudding. Next, create a well in the middle of the mixed dry ingredients and add the whisked eggs, vanilla essences, milk, and olive oil. Using a whisk, mix the ingredients together until they are just combined.
Then, gently fold in the mashed banana until the mixture is just combined. Do not over-mix the batter.
Step 3: Bake the banana bread
Gently pour the batter into the lined cake tin. Do not bang the cake tin against a table to remove air bubbles – we want the air bubbles to help create some rise in the cake.
Bake the banana bread with cake mix and pudding. After 35 minutes, check whether the cake has been baked completely through by testing it with a toothpick. If it is still raw inside, continue baking it for another 5-10 minutes or until it is done and golden brown.
Step 4: Cool your banana bread and decorate it
Once fully baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to completely cool before decorating it.
Then, when the cake has finally cooled, you can continue decorating it however you want. This banana bread made with cake mix is delicious on its own, dusted with some powdered sugar. You can also check out our decorating section below for some more ideas!

Tips And Tricks For Banana Bread Made With Cake Mix
- If you do not have non-stick baking paper or cooking spray, you can brush the cake tin with melted butter and lightly dust it with cake flour.
- You have to use the ripest possible bananas you can find. Ripe bananas ensure that you have a smooth texture in your banana bread and that you get a very intense and authentic banana flavor.
- You can either mash the bananas to create a completely lump-free and smooth puree, or you can roughly mash them using a fork. This will obviously affect the texture of your final cake, however, even if you have a lumpy banana inside the batter, once baked it will become soft.
- If you cannot find banana-flavored instant pudding, you can also use vanilla-flavored instant pudding. And, if you want to intensify the banana flavor then, simply add about half a teaspoon (2.5 ml) of banana extract.
- You can substitute the milk with vegan milk like almond milk, coconut milk (or cream), or even macadamia milk.
