What Are Sticky Buns?
Sticky buns are a type of sweet roll that is typically served at breakfast or for dessert. They typically are made up of pieces of leavened dough, with brown sugar and cinnamon also commonly mixed in. Most of the time they also contain some kind of nut.
The brown sugar mixed with butter, or sometimes honey, acts as the sticky ingredient. Once baked, the pan is inverted so the sticky pan lining also becomes the topping. They are typically served in a pull-apart fashion.
Sticky buns origin goes all the way back to the Middle Ages. In Germany, they were originally known as “Schnecken.” During the 18th century, the Pennsylvania Dutch introduced sticky buns to America and they are still a popular dish across the states.
