  • One pack of unflavored gelatin, about 7.2 grams
  • 1/4 tsp of citric acid
  • 1/4 cup of corn syrup

Equipment

  • Two pieces of 1-inch silicone bear molds
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Medium-sized microwave-safe bowl
  • Soupspoon
  • Measuring cups
  • Baking sheet

Step-by-step instructions

Step 3

Once the gelatin has bloomed, stir your gelatin mixture. Then, place it inside the microwave; set it on high heat for about thirty seconds. Afterward, stir the mixture again. And microwave for another fifteen seconds. Next, repeat the heating process of fifteen seconds three times for a total of one minute and a half. If you can see air bubbles forming on the surface of your gelatin, stop heating. After that, stir it gently to remove the bubbles.

Step 6

Next, let your gummy bears sit for about thirty minutes. Once done, place the molds inside the refrigerator for another thirty minutes.

Step 7

When your gummy bears are firm, push each piece out of the bear molds. And arrange them on a baking sheet. Position each of the bears where they are standing upright.

Step 8

Then, let your gummy bears sit in that position for forty-eight hours. And lay them on their backs for another twenty-four hours. This process is long. If it did not shrink, leave your bears for another day or more until they have a chewy consistency. Afterward, toss your gummy bears around as often as you can so they will dry out.

Do Gummy Bears Have High Fructose Corn Syrup?

Depending on the brand of gummy bears, some may have high fructose corn syrup whereas others may not. While some brands may not use high fructose corn syrup, many brands do use corn syrup such as Albanese gummy bears and Haribo gummy bears.

High fructose corn syrup, also known as glucose-fructose, is a type of sweetener made with corn starch. While they are similar, corn syrup and high-fructose corn syrup are two different things. High-fructose corn syrup starts as corn syrup and then is further treated with enzymes which then break down some of the glucose into another common sugar, fructose.

How Do You Make Gummy Bears Without Corn Syrup?

While most gummy bears do use corn syrup, you can make homemade gummy bears without having to use corn syrup. Corn syrup works to provide a soft texture, add volume, prevent the crystallization of sugar, and even enhance flavor. However, you can still make delicious soft gummy bears without using corn syrup.

To make homemade gummy bears without corn syrup, you will need three ounces of flavored gelatin, one envelope of unflavored gelatin, and 1/3 cup of cold water. Combine both gelatins in a small bowl and then add them to the cold water. Allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes at room temperature.

Then, microwave the mixture for 30 seconds, whisk, and microwave again for 3o seconds. Whisk together until dissolved and then pour the mixture into a gummy bear mold that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Set the gummy bears in the fridge for at least 20 minutes to set before enjoying them.

How Do You Make Low-Sugar Gummy Bears?

To make gummy bears low-sugar, you can use sugar-free gelatin instead of traditional flavored gelatin in your recipe. To do so you will need six envelopes of unflavored gelatin, one package of sugar-free flavored gelatin, and a 1/2 cup of cold water. Combine the unflavored gelatin, sugar-free gelatin, and cold water then place in a small saucepan over medium heat.

Continue mixing the mixture until it becomes liquified. Then, when full liquid, remove from heat and pour into the gummy bear molds that have been sprayed with cooking spray. Let the gummy bears set in the fridge for at least 20 minutes before enjoying them.

How Do You Make Gummy Bears Firmer?

To make gummy bears firmer, leave them in the fridge for a longer time. You can start out leaving them in for at least six hours or up to 24 hours. This will give them more time to firm up and give them a better texture.

How Do You Make a Gummy Bear Without Gelatin?

Gelatin is a key ingredient in gummy bears as it is what gives them their signature texture. However, gelatin is not vegetarian or vegan-friendly as it comes from boiling skin, tendons, ligaments, and bones of cows or pigs. Fortunately, there are ways you can make gummy bears without gelatin.

To make gummy bears without gelatin you will need one cup of fruit juice, two teaspoons of Agar Agar powder, and two teaspoons of your sweetener of choice. Bring the fruit juice, Agar Agar powder, and sweetener to a boil in a saucepan and let boil for one minute.

Allow the mixture to cool for five to 1o minute before adding it to a gummy bear mold that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Then let your gummy bears set in the fridge for at least 20 minutes or overnight.
