What is Knox Gelatin?

Knox Gelatin is a brand of unflavored, plain gelatin that is used in a variety of desserts. It is made from collagen, which is derived from boiling animal bones, skin, and tissue, so it is not vegetarian-friendly.

Since Knox has no additives, it is essentially pure protein. It helps thicken foods and gives jello its signature wiggly texture. It is a common ingredient in finger jello, jams, jellies, ice cream, cheesecake, pudding, and much more.

Since Know brand does not have any flavoring in it, flavoring must be added in addition. Jell-O brand, on the other hand, comes in packets that are already flavored. They offer a large variety of flavors such as lime, lemon, strawberry, cherry, watermelon, peach, orange, and many more.

Step four: Add evaporated milk

Step five: Combine the two jello mixtures

Pour the jello mixture with evaporated milk on top of the first jello mixture.

Step six: Return to fridge

Return your jello to the fridge and refrigerate for four hours or until set firm.

Step seven: Slice the jello

Once the jello is firm, remove it from the fridge and turn it out onto a cutting board. If desired, you may garnish it with multi-color or seasonal sprinkles.

Using a sharp knife, cut the jello into four rows and then cut each row into seven alternating triangles. You can also cut the jello into any desired shape you would like.

Tips And Tricks

Instead of using a knife to cut jello, you can use cookie cutters instead. Using cookie cutters will allow you to achieve fun, intricate shapes and it is also easy to do. If you do use cookie cutters, use metal ones over plastic as it will be much easier to cut with metal ones.

Instead of lime, you can use any flavor of Jell-O that you would like. If desired, you can also use the sugar-free version instead.

If you are having trouble removing your finger jello from the pan, you can dip it in some warm water, careful to not go above the rim. Then, take your finger and dip it in the warm water and then run it along the edges of the dish to loosen the jello. Next, invert the pan onto a plate or cutting board and gently shake the jello out of the pan.

You can let the jello rest in the pan for up to 24 hours before removing it from the pan and slicing it into shapes. In addition, you can store any leftover jello cubes in the fridge in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap. It will last for up to seven to ten days in your fridge when properly stored.

It is not recommended to freeze jello squares, as they will not maintain their desirable texture when thawing out. If you notice that your jello has pools of liquid on the top, it is spoiled and no longer good. In addition, throw it out if you notice any signs of mold, or if it has an off taste, smell, or texture.
