Can You Substitute Any Fruit In Banana Bread?
Using bananas in quick bread helps provide it with flavor, while also making it moist and giving it a delicate crumb. The bananas are finely mashed in order to incorporate them into the recipe. However, if you are not a fan of bananas or don't have any on hand, there are substitutes you can use.
Instead of mashed bananas, you can use pureed fruits such as applesauce, pureed avocados or even pears will work. In addition, you can also use zucchini, pumpkin puree, or greek yogurt. For a more unique substitute, you can use prunes, pureed white beans, or garbanzo beans.
Why Is My Banana Bread Fudgy?
Just like any baked good, banana bread doesn't always turn outright. If your banana bread turns out fudgy or dense, there are a few different things that can cause this to happen.
One of the most common reasons banana bread turns out fudgy is that you did not use enough leavening agents such as baking soda or baking powder. In addition, sometimes it will be dense if your leavening agents are expired. Leavening agents work to give quick bread a light, moist texture that is not dense.
Also, make sure you are not using underripe bananas, and be sure to not use too many bananas as well. In addition, do not overmix the batter as this can lead to a dense final product. For best results, use a scale to weigh out your ingredients to ensure you are not using too much or too little of each ingredient.
