We’ve decided to make our own homemade chocolate pudding mix and add use real bananas for the banana flavor. However, you can easily use banana pudding mix instead and just add some cocoa powder for the chocolate element.

Regardless of which route you choose to go, this recipe is easy and can be made in less than an hour.

What Do You Need To Make Instant Pudding?

It depends on whether you are making store-bought instant pudding or a homemade mix from scratch. To make a store-bought instant pudding, simply combine 1 packet of pudding (which is usually 3.4-5.1 ounces) with roughly 2-3 cups of cold milk. Whisk the ingredients together until a smooth mixture is formed and allow it to set in the fridge.

To make your own homemade instant pudding, you will need a couple of ingredients.

Step 1: Make the chocolate pudding instant mix

To make this pudding mix, simply whisk together all of the dry ingredients and ensure that there aren’t any lumps in the mixture. You can make this pre-mix in advance and store it in a glass jar in a cool dark place.

Then, do not hydrate the instant pudding mix as you will be using it directly in the recipe with the other dry ingredients.

Step 2: Combine the wet ingredients

First, preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line the baking tray with non-stick baking paper or cooking spray.

Place the salted butter inside a small saucepan and allow it to melt completely over a low heat. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent the butter from burning. Set the butter aside to cool completely.

  • A lot of people love adding sliced banana pieces inside of the brownie mix or as a garnish on top. When the banana is baked, it caramelizes nicely and helps create a good balance of chocolate and banana.
  • When lining the baking pan with parchment paper, make sure that the paper overhang on each side of the pan. This will make it much easier to remove the brownie block after it has begun to cool.
