Equipment

  • Rolling Pin
  • Sharp Knife
  • Toothpick

Ingredients

  • Fondant,color of your choice
  • Powdered sugar,for dusting

Instructions

  • Roll out the fondant
Knead a ball of fondant until it becomes soft and pliable. It should also be worked into a smooth ball before being rolled. Once you are happy with the consistency of your fondant, place it on a non-stick surface (or powdered sugar surface) and roll it out.
You can roll the fondant until it is about 0.2-inches (0.5 cm) in thickness. keep lifting the fondant every couple of rolls to ensure that it isn't sticking to the surface.

  • Cut  the petals
Once your fondant is rolled and you have ensured that it isn't stuck to the surface, you can cut the shapes.
To start, cut one teardrop out of the fondant. This will act as the center. Then, cut two more teardrops, slightly larger. These will start forming the first petals in your rose. Continue cutting out two teardrops at a time, each set being slightly larger than the previous.
  • Start your rose
To start shaping your rose, take the first teardrop and place the toothpick vertically on top of it. Make sure the pointy end of the teardrop faces downwards. Then, roll the teardrop around the toothpick. Pinch the bottom (pointy end) to secure it and make the base smaller.
  • Add petals to your rose
Once your first petal (the center) is secured, you can start adding more petals. To do this, wrap one of the smallest petals around your center. Then, before pinching the side against the center to close it, place the second smallest petal underneath the edge. Then, simply continue rolling and wrapping the petals.
Don't squish the petals against each other. This will help keep them open to create a beautiful open rose. You can add as many petals as you'd like. Just make sure they are bigger than the last set you used.

Notes

If you want to color your fondant, do so before your start rolling and shaping your rose. You can also color the entire rose with colored powder after it has been made.
If you want to dry the roses, you can do so at room temperature. It will take a couple of days for them to dry. So, many professional bakers use a setting powder or place the figurines in front of a fan or in a very low oven.
