  • Heat your oven
Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit and turn on your oven light. Let your oven sit heated for five minutes and then turn off the heat, but leave the light on.
  • Place your fondant decorations in the oven
Add your baking sheet with fondant pieces to the middle shelf of the oven. Let the small decorations sit in the oven for eight to ten minutes and the large decorations for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Let the fondant decorations air dry
After removing the fondant decorations from the oven, let them air dry for 30 minutes. Your decorations will now be hardened so you can add them to your cake.

  • Dry the fondant with the blow drier
Plug in your blow dryer and turn it on to the lowest setting. Hold the hair dryer one to one and a half feet away from your baking sheet and dry the pieces for five to 10 minutes depending on their size. Move the blow drier back and forth to ensure they all get thoroughly dried.
  • Air dry the fondant
After blow-drying the fondant decorations, let them air dry for 30 minutes. Your fondant decorations will now be hard enough to add to your cake.

Notes

When making your fondant decorations, be sure to roll the fondant thin as this will make it easier to work with and will allow it to try faster. In addition, thick fondant can be unpleasant to eat.
Another great way to speed up the drying process of fondant is to use a drying agent. CMC or Tylose can be found at most craft and baking stores and can be used to make fondant dry faster. Not only does it help reduce the drying time for fondant, but it will also make decorations firmer so there is less of a chance they will break.
