    • Prepare - Gather all of the ingredients you need and preheat your oven to 350F. Also, you’ll need to grease and flour 2 cake pans.
    • Make the Batter - Grab a bowl and add the butter and sugar together. Cream them together until light and fluffy; this should take around 3 minutes. Now add the eggs individually; only adding the next egg until the previous is combined. In a second bowl, add the milk and creme bouquet together. In a third bowl, add the flour, baking powder and salt. Now alternate between adding the second and third bowl ingredients to the butter mixture. Mix well.
    • Bake the Cake - Pour batter into the prepared pans and bake for around 20-25 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the center of your cake to check it’s baked. If it comes out clean, it’s ready. Leave cakes to cool on a wire rack and prepare the buttercream.
    • Make the Buttercream - Add the granulated sugar, salt, and meringue powder to a bowl. Pour in the boiling water and mix well. Keep mixing until stiff peaks form. This may take around 8 minutes. At this point, mix in the creme bouquet. In a separate bowl, add the shortening and powdered sugar. Beat together until light and fluffy and leave to one side. Now add both of the bowls together and mix well for several minutes, until it reaches the consistency you require.
    • Decorate the Cake - Once your cake is cool, add the frosting to your cake as you wish, and decorate with toppings of your choice. Your cake is now ready to serve, slice, and enjoy!
