Trolls Cake: An Outstanding How-To Recipe

How to make a Trolls cake? Do you picture a creature found under the bridge based on your bedtime stories about trolls? If you do, no need to worry, but trolls are now even more famous because of the movie Trolls by DreamWorks. 
Nowadays, Trolls are colorful and cute singing creatures with frizzy hair. Princess Poppy is the main character. She is sweet, charming, and lovable; that's why children like her. And if your child adores Trolls, then they will love this recipe. We will be making an Easy Troll Cake with pull-apart cupcake hair, inspired by Princess Poppy. You can make this recipe for your child's birthday party. And I am sure they will be happy with their birthday cake. Let's take a look at how to make Trolls cake.

Equipment

Ingredients
  

For decorating

  • Buttercream, you can use store-bought or homemade. Also, if you want to make your homemade buttercream, add 600 grams of sifted powdered sugar. In addition to that, add 300 grams of softened unsalted butter using an electric mixer. 
  • Fondant with colors; light pink, dark pink, white and, black. Remember, you can buy a white one. Likewise, you can color the fondant yourself using gel food coloring. 

For the pull-apart cupcake hair

Instructions 

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Then, grease your 9-inch round cake pans with a little butter. After that, set them aside.
  • Afterward, combine 300 grams of butter and vanilla bean paste inside a large mixing bowl. Then, whisk using an electric mixer. After that, beat until the butter mixture becomes lighter in color and fluffy. Next, make sure to add your eggs one at a time. Also, mix every after addition. Then, scrape the bowl's sides and bottom to incorporate the eggs using a rubber spatula.
    6 eggs, 300 g of softened butter, 4 tsp of vanilla extract
  • Next, be sure to sift your baking powder and flour into your cake mixture. Also, add your milk, and fold in your sprinkles.
    350 g of self-raising flour, 1 tsp of baking powder, 4 tbsp of milk, 150 g of colorful sprinkles of your choice
  • After that, be sure to divide your cake batter between two cake pans. Then, place it inside the oven. Afterward, bake for about 25 to 30 minutes. Likewise, you can bake it until the cakes cook thoroughly.
  • Once your cakes finish baking, allow them to cool for 15 minutes. Make sure to do this before transferring into a cooling wire rack.
  • Then, beat 150 grams of softened butter with half of your powdered sugar using an electric mixer. Ensure to do so till it becomes fluffy. After that, add your cream cheese and the other half of your powdered sugar. Be sure to beat until well combined. Also, add your vanilla bean paste and mix.

  • After that, if the cakes cool completely, cut their top part to even them out using a long serrated knife. Likewise, you can utilize a cake cutter. Then, add a layer of icing into one of the cakes. Make sure to spread it evenly using your offset spatula. And ensure to put the other cake layer on top of the icing. Also, press gently. Afterward, apply the remaining icing on your cake's sides and top to crumb coat. Finally, place it inside the refrigerator for 15 minutes to set.

For the Decorations

  • First of all, dust your work surface with a little bit of powdered sugar. After that, roll out your pink fondant using a rolling pin. Then, drape your pink fondant over your cake. And be sure to flatten the sides using a plastic fondant smoother. Doing this allows your fondant to stick in the cake. 
    Fondant with colors; light pink, dark pink, white and, black. Remember, you can buy a white one. Likewise, you can color the fondant yourself using gel food coloring. 
  • Then, using your Exacto knife or scalpel, cut and trim the excess fondant around your cake. Afterward, smoothen any lumps and gaps. Also, ensure to roll out smaller black, white, and dark pink fondant pieces. Afterward, be sure to utilize your scalpel or Exacto knife to create the facial features of Princess Poppy. Likewise, you can print a picture of Princess Poppy beforehand, trace it on baking paper. After that, use it as a guide. When you finish making the features of her face, make sure to stick them together using a little bit of fondant adhesive. Lastly, stick them in the cake. 

For the Pull-Apart Cupcake Hair

  • Before anything else, be sure to preheat your oven to 175 degrees Celsius. Then, fill your cupcake pans with cupcake liners. Afterward, set aside. 
  • Afterward, cream your butter and sugar. Also, mix until it becomes light and fluffy. Then, add milk and vanilla extract. After that, be sure to add your eggs one at a time. Also, do not forget to add your flour to the mixture. And ensure to mix until well combined. 
    250 g softened butter, 4 eggs, 4 tbsp of milk, 250 g caster sugar, 2 tsp of vanilla extract, 250 g of self-raising flour
  • Then, fill your cupcake liners about half full. Afterward, bake cupcakes for about 15 to 20 minutes or bake until they cook thoroughly. After that, allow your cupcakes to cool completely.
  • After that, arrange your cooled cupcakes into the cake you made earlier. With that, be sure to use two cupcakes. And place them near the cake to resemble Princess Poppy's ears. Also, arrange the other cupcakes like a pyramid when making Princess Poppy's hair. 
  • Ultimately, swirl some frosting in the cupcakes once you are happy with your arrangement. Because of that, ensure to utilize a palette knife. Then, create bangs or fringe in Princess Poppy's face. Also, be sure to spread it in the long direction of the hair to create lines. Also, make sure to start working near the face and into the end of her hair. With that, utilize your palette knife to create lines of her hair. Likewise, you can put lace or create a floral headband using fondant to put in her hair. Doing so completes the look. As always, make sure to serve and enjoy it with your friends and family!
