Instructions

For Owl Cake

  • Preheat Oven and Prepare the 13 x 9-Inch Cake Pan - Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Farenheit. Grease the 13 x 9-inch cake pan with cooking spray until fully covered.
  • Make the Cake - In a large mixing bowl, add your cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Beat the boxed cake mix and ingredients at medium speed for two minutes, scraping the bowl as needed.
  • Bake the Cake -Pour the cake batter into your prepared cake pan and bake it for 19-24 minutes in the oven. Allow the cake to completely cool on your wire rack.
  • Cut the Cake - Make rounded cuts with a serrated knife to remove the two corners at bottom of the cake. Then, trim a small crescent shape at the top for the head.
  • Cut the trimmed crescent shape in half going horizontally in order to create the wings. Place the wings at the top of the cake, flat side out, at a slight angle.
  • Decorate the Cake - Cover the head and wings of the owl with chocolate frosting. Add yellow food coloring to the vanilla frosting and frost the body of the owl. Place the almonds in rows on the body of the owl.
  • Add the donuts to the head to make eyes and add the malt balls to the center of the donuts. Cut the orange Starbursts in half, using one half for the noise, and then put two halves for each foot. Cut the pink Starburst in half to make a bow.

For Barbie Wedding Dress Cake

  • Preheat Oven and Grease Doll Pan - Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Farenheit and grease the doll dress pan with cooking spray.
  • Prepare the Cake Batter - In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until nice and fluffy. Mix in the vanilla extract, salt, and the eggs, one at a time, into the creamed butter and sugar.
  • In a separate bowl, add the flour and baking powder, mixing until combined. Alternate adding the milk and flour mixture to your wet ingredients, mixing until the white cake batter is just combined.
  • Bake the Doll Cake - Pour the batter in the doll dress pan and bake for 35-60 minutes, until a skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the dress pan for 10 minutes before cooling on a wire rack.
  • Add the Barbie - Cover the Barbie's legs in plastic wrap. Cut a small hole in the cake and insert the Barbie doll so the dress comes up to her waist.
  • Decorare the Dress and Barbie - Frost a thin layer of frosting on the cake and then place it in the fridge for 15 minutes. Using a piping bag with your choice of a piping tip, frost the skirt of the dress. Then, frost the Barbie to give the dress a top.
