You’ve likely noticed that your oven has different settings on it called bake and broil. Many people use bake on a regular basis but aren’t familiar with the boil setting. So, just what is the difference between bake and broil?

Generally, baking is used for foods that don’t have a stable structure that then solidifies during the baking process. Broiling food uses only heat from the top of the oven at very hot temperatures.

Some ovens will have a convection bake setting. Convection ovens use a small fan and exhaust system to circulate the heat as food bakes to provide an even distribution of heat. This in return helps food cook faster.

Roasting is another method of cooking that is very similar to baking. Though roasting uses both the top and bottom of the oven to heat food, however, it is done at a much higher temperature. When roasting, the oven temperature is generally between 400 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
