Cake Decorist has published baking and cake decorating content since 2019. This page explains who makes that content, how it is reviewed, and where technology is and is not used in the process. We would rather tell you plainly than leave you guessing.
Who writes here
Every post on Cake Decorist is assigned to, reviewed by, and published under the name of a real person on our editorial team. Our writers are bakers and decorators, not generalists. Author names on posts are real people.
Final editorial responsibility for everything published on this site rests with Karen Rutherford and the Cake Decorist editorial team, who review content before it goes live.
How we use AI
We use AI tools the way most publishers now do, and we think readers deserve to know exactly where.
We do use AI for:
- Research assistance and first-draft outlines, which a human writer then rewrites
- Grammar, spelling, and readability checks
- Drafting meta descriptions and image alt text, which an editor reviews
- Organizing and formatting existing recipe notes
We do not use AI for:
- Publishing a post that no human has read, edited, and approved
- Inventing recipes. Every recipe published here has been made by a person.
- Generating nutritional information, ingredient substitutions, or food safety guidance
- Fabricating personal stories, testing notes, or reader experiences
About our images
We are in the middle of a photography overhaul, and we want to be straightforward about where it stands.
Historically, some illustrative images on this site were produced with AI image tools. We have stopped that practice. Going forward:
- All new recipe posts use original photography taken in our own kitchen, or licensed stock photography from a commercial library.
- We are working backward through our archive replacing older generated images, prioritizing our most-read posts.
- Any image that is licensed stock rather than our own photography is illustrative, not a photo of the specific result you will get.
If you find an image on this site that misrepresents a recipe result, tell us on our contact page and we will replace it.
Recipe testing
A recipe is not published on Cake Decorist until someone on our team has made it. Where a post collects ideas from across the web (a roundup or inspiration post), we say so clearly in the post and we link to the original source and creator. We do not republish another creator’s recipe as our own.
A note on nutrition and health
Cake Decorist publishes dessert and baking recipes for enjoyment. We are bakers, not dietitians, nutritionists, or medical professionals.
Words like “healthy,” “lighter,” “sugar-free,” “guilt-free,” or “better-for-you” on this site are used comparatively. They describe how a recipe differs from a traditional version, usually in sugar, fat, or refined flour. They are not health claims and they are not a statement that any recipe is beneficial for any medical condition.
Nutritional information, where shown, is an automated estimate based on typical ingredients. It will vary with your brands, measurements, and substitutions. Do not rely on it for medical or dietary decisions.
If you are managing diabetes, food allergies, celiac disease, pregnancy, feeding an infant, or any other medical or dietary condition, talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian before making changes to what you eat. Nothing on this site is medical advice. Always check ingredient labels yourself for allergens.
Corrections
We fix things. If a recipe does not work, a measurement is wrong, or a fact is out of date, tell us on our contact page and we will correct the post and note the correction date at the top.
